OVERVIEW OF MARKETS AND PRODUCTS


SUMMARY

This module enables participants to distinguish between the international marketplace and the local domestic marketplace. The interaction of rates and products that globalize the financial decisions of the CFO/Treasurer serve as the focus of this module. An overview of interest and exchange rate exposure products is included.


OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

1. Identify tiers of the global market including the international market, the domestic market and the local foreign market.

2. Describe the composition of the U.S. market in terms of:

– Players

– Short–term vs. long–term instruments

– Debt finance vs. equity

3. Describe the use of U.S. Treasuries as an international benchmark for financial decision–making.

4. Identify the key foreign bond markets including Japan, U.K., Switzerland, and West Germany.

5. List the differences between the U.S. market and the Eurobond market.

6. Identify the influence of interest rates and foreign exchange rates in international decision–making.

7. Describe rate management techniques and products including futures, forwards, options and swaps.

8. Identify target clients for rate management products.
