INTRODUCTION TO CAPITAL MARKETS
SUMMARY
This module enables participants to evaluate trends in the global marketplace and how they impact upon corporate financial decision–making. Major trends include deregulation, globalization, disinflation and disintermediation. Fundamental concepts and calculations in corporate finance are reviewed.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:
1. Define deregulation, globalization, disinflation and disintermediation.
2. Identify the sources of these trends and their major impact on financial decision–making.
3. Relate these trends to product development in commercial and investment banking.
4. Develop issuer and investor profiles in setting goals for financial management.
5. Use the HP–12C to calculate FV, PV, NPV and IRR.
6. Distinguish among criteria of project finance.
7. Identify markets of comparative advantage for issuers and investors.
8. Structure option opportunities for issuers and investors.
